First Japanese model

This is the first model I've had in Japan.  With my very limited Japanese I was able to explain that I was an artist and arrange a time to photograph her, but the actual shoot was tough.  I had no idea how to explain what facial expressions I was after, how I wanted her to pose, or where I wanted her to look.  She was a great sport though, and put up with me acting out what I wanted her to do without laughing at me too much.

Finally started painting in my new studio

Here's a shot of my new studio in Tokyo.  It's tiny, about a fifth of the size of my Nashville studio, but it will work.  As far as studio space goes in Tokyo though, it's pretty big.  And on the plus side, did I mention that it's not in Nashville, Tennessee?  :)

Tokyo bound

Last week I moved to Tokyo.  My studio and several completed pieces are in a shipping container which I won't receive until the end of June.  No painting for me for at least another month.  :(

Borrowed Dress

This is the final piece I'm taking to the Modus Union show in Washington D.C. next week.  It's my friend Jess looking a bit past prime after a formal affair.

Tonight Don't You Want to Come With Me?

This one is 4ft X 4ft, which is a canvas size I really like to work with.  Plenty of room to put a lot of big brushwork into the model's body and also room to play with the background.  Courtney, who posed for this painting, actually had bright blue hair and is pretty much covered with tattoos.  I kept her looking a bit serene though, and instead added some subtle graffiti to the background.
